One of the cool things about Tangier is its geographic location relative to the two continents of Africa and Europe. We were told many times that the land we see in the distance to the north is Spain and that it’s only 14 km away. On a clear day, you can even see straight to Gibraltar (no pun intended, well maybe).
But being on the far northwest corner of Africa and situated basically at the entrance to the Mediterranean, there comes a certain point at which the Atlantic Ocean meets the Mediterranean Sea. And that point is known as Cap Spartel. As you might expect it’s a popular tourist destination and since we’re just being tourists, it’s something we had on our list of things to see and do.

Looking out over these two vast bodies of water I cannot begin to imagine what it must have been like to be a 15th century explorer setting off on a journey in a small wooden ship into wild unknown.
It’s a nice view but there really isn’t an exact meeting point between the two bodies of water.
ReplyDeleteTell that to the fish who live there. I bet they know the difference.
